Decoding Reality: The Universe as Quantum Information

Want to become a social outcast? Why not attempt to impress friends by turning conversation from "Whoa! That guttering needs a bit of work!" to post-quantum ("po-quo") physics? One of the most cited contemporary physicists, Prof. Vlatko Vedral, Professor of Quantum Information Theory, University of Oxford, will be speaking on the topic of information as a foundational building block of the universe.

'What if the fundamental entity is not energy or matter, but information? I will explore this hypothesis using evidence that suggests that the quantum
world, once thought to be limited to the tiniest scales, may reach much further – thereby challenging our concepts of particles, of time, of determinism, and of reality itself!'

Doors open 7pm. Starts 7:30pm, so pls get there early. Tickets: £8 / £6 (concessions - OAP/under 25) : £10 / £8 on the door

Wow! That was fantastically interesting and inspiring, even to a non-scientist like me.

I'll echo Paul's comment. This will be brilliant as I've tried to understand quantum physics before.

Hi yes. I have looked into quantum ohysics a bit before so i am really looking forward to this.

Sorry Carole can't do this now doing the Wye Valley walk on Saturday and don't want to fall asleep in what sounds like a fascinating lecture !

Sorry - I just got this info in, so please note change of £, booking details and meetup time. Doors open 7pm, so I suggest meet up then. Please advise if you're not going to make it because otherwise we might be saving seats. So sorry for the late changes. Sincere apologies. Curt bow.

Yes, I too have some relevant questions prepared ...
    (1) can it make my car tax cheaper ? and (b) will it
make those awful kebabs from the shop round
the corner taste any better ?

I will try and bring a friend, it sounds interesting.

I'm sure you'll be able to use the word confidently in everyday conversation. "Can you take the rubbish out?" "That's a quantum issue right now in the larger picture that is my life." etc

  • Yvonne

I'm confidently expecting this to go right over my head. But I love the word 'quantum'.

Becoming a social outcast doesn't matter to me because I'm already a social outcast
