Ashton Court Christmas Walk & Christmas Art & Craft Fayre.

  • Dec 1, 2013 · 10:30 AM
  • Neptune Statue

Walk from the Centre of Bristol to Ashton Court via the M Shed and we will follow the chocolate path, beside the New Cut.

The Chocolate path is, (Known colloquially as the ‘chocolate path’ because of the resemblance of the paving blocks to chocolate bars, this waterside walkway was built when the Bristol Harbour Railway linked Ashton Bridge with Wapping Wharf in 1906.) We will then walk back via the Floating Harbour. May see, and indeed hear, the deer.

At Ashton Court Fayre:

Come join in the festive fun and shop in beautiful surroundings at this years’ Ashton Court Christmas food and Craft Fayre. It’s the perfect way to shop unusual and unique gifts from the selection of local craft and food producer stalls.

• ( On the 15th of December at Ashton Court there will be a Christmas Producers Market similar to today's market to celebrate another festive market. The markets will boasts over 25 different stalls laden with locally made food, drink, crafts and dog treats!)  Click on this link for more info: (Katrina- I personally hope to see you there this time)

With hand-made jewelry, handcrafted soaps and body oils to wood crafts and ceramics; the craft stalls will provide lots of ideas for the perfect Christmas present. Outside in the historic courtyard will be the food and drink stalls selling the finest artisan products including ale and cider, cheese, fudge, charcuterie, handmade chocolates, Christmas puds and cakes, a wide selection of other food gifts and even a dedicated dog treat stall.

To get you in the festive spirit, they will be serving up the mulled wine, hog roast and lots of other hot food options to keep you on the go whilst keeping you entertained by local musicians. And not forgetting the usual deer walks arranged by the experienced estate managers (booking essential). There is guided deer walks although I don't think the timings will co-ordinate with our plans of attendance.
Hog roast should be nearly cooked and ready to eat buy the time we get there all ready and burnt all your energy from your hill adventure walk. By the time you get here, you will have earned all those delicious but calorific goodies.

The walk will be approximately Approx 5 miles. We will be walking on mostly tarmac, concrete and will be some slopes, and steps. Lastly there will be plenty (of course) chocolate, for all those choco-oholics!!

Meet at the Statue of Neptune, opposite the Hippodrome at 10:30, near the water features. For the people outside Bristol who have difficulties finding the Stature, I have included the image of the Stature of Neptune  just for you.

We will also be joined by the Bristol Hiking Group members too but the more the merrier.

Many Thanks Stuart.

Thanks again to Stuart and to Toby for arranging a lovely walk with plenty of entertainment at the destination.
Marmite and cheese bread now rules OK!

I'd like to agree with Laurence, as always, that a) it was a vg event, and, b) that Catherine is henceforth expected to supply marmite (well, preferably vegemite) and cheese bread.

Thanks for organising this walk. It was lovely though a bit chilly. Managed to buy a couple of Christmas pressies at the Craft Fayre, so happy with that. Nice to see you all.x
