Bristol Affordable Art Fair

"The Affordable Art Fair is a friendly and relaxed environment in which to browse, buy and enjoy the best contemporary art, from local galleries and further afield. You will be able to visit 55 galleries in one afternoon, under one roof. With paintings, original artist-made prints, sculpture and photography all on show, and everything for sale between £40 and £4,000, a day out at the fair is the easiest and most enjoyable way to view and buy art."

A perfect opportunity to start, or add to, your collection. Maybe one of those ubiquitous brass hares for that empty table in the hallway. Or how about a moody, epic meditation on the eternal human choice between good and evil, in acrylic? Or you can just browse.

I have a voucher for unlimited half-price tickets.

Anyone who would like half price admission (that's £2.50 instead of £5): follow this link

Unfortunately, there is an online booking fee. If you don't want to pay the booking fee you can meet me outside and pay on the day but be aware: I don't wait for more than five minutes!

Arrangements for the day

-----------------------------

We'll meet outside the main doors at 2pm. I'm recognizable from my photo -I'm not going to get a blue mohican. At least, not before Saturday.

I will wait until 2.05pm.

Obviously, we're not going to roam around the Fair hoovering up culture like a multi-mouthed vacuum cleaner. We'll have different tastes and will want to spend varying lengths of time there. Some people will be done in 30 minutes, others (such as myself) will spend ages haggling with some sorry, starving painter to get a few quid off. I'm only half joking there.

It is always interesting to discuss these things afterwards though, so we can do the ubiquitous pub stop when done. There is a Wetherspoons close by.  Yes, I know they generally have less atmosphere than any known planet, but it's a toss up between that and the Reckless Engineer. Or we can head into town a bit.

Towards the end of the week I will email attendees my mobile number, so you can contact me during the event if need be.

Great event Richard. Will look out for some more arty events to go too soon. The art was a great focus for interesting chats with gallery owners and artists.

Thanks Richard - this event would have passed me by if I hadn't seen it here. Thankfully my wallet stayed firmly shut, but I was feeling its pull on several occasions (I have some blank wall space!).

Yes, a nice day, except for one thing. I contest the description "affordable"! Some of that stuff was eye-wateringly expensive! Still, nice day out looking at nice art, and I think I'll try and get a print of that map of the world made up of pictures of the animals from each region.

Hello richard, i expect the event will be clearly marked. Do you know whereabouts it will ne held at the station only i went to a templemeads event once and it was held to quite fareside on a train.

    August 11, 2014

    • Richard

Hi Kora. It's easy to find. It's almost on the corner of the A4 and Station Approach. A minute's walk from the station. Near the Reckless Engineer pub. They'll be signs anyway.
