The Bay Area Clojure User Group Early/SF Monthly Meetup

Sean Corfield will take us through some of what World Singles is doing with Clojure.

World Singles is a dating and matchmaking company that operates online personals websites for various communities from all over the world. Since 2010, World Singles has been using Clojure in production as a general purpose language for the model of their web platform as well as several data-intensive processes that run 24x7.

Sean says:

I can walk folks through the overall structure of what we do with Clojure and dive deep into any areas that folks find particularly interesting. We deal with MySQL, MongoDB, XML, JSON, third-party web services... We generate and send over a million HTML emails a day... We write tests for REST APIs and the full web application (via WebDriver)... All powered by Clojure!

And a reminder from our host about location and travel:

201 Third Street, Suite. 1100
(3rd and Howard in-between Chevy’s and Starbucks)
San Francisco, CA 94103

Take the elevator to the 11th floor

We are a 15 minute walk from the CalTrain station at 4th and King Street, and a 15 minute walk from the Embarcadero and Brannan Street Muni line, and a 10 minute walk from the Montgomery BART station.

There is a self-parking garage right next to our building:

Moscone Garage
255 Third Street

Sean did a great job, and the discussion covered some important fundamental topics such as Enlive vs Hiccup, MySQL vs MongoDB, TDD, social aspects of introducing Clojure into a dev team, etc.

Thanx Mike! Sorry about the technical glitch with my new Win 8 tablet and the projector resolution :(

I'll be there about 6:20pm I think. I got distracted by Girl Scout Cookies at BART and missed my train by seconds :(

What topics/subjects are going to be discussed at this meeting?

That's a very good question. Given the lack of volunteers and the lack of suggestions, you'll most likely get me talking about Clojure in production at World Singles :)
