Discussion of The Shadow of the Wind

The votes are in and there was a tie!  With a flip of the coin, the critically-acclaimed novel, The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, has won for January's book!

This is the synopsis:

Barcelona, 1945: A city slowly heals in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, and Daniel, an antiquarian book dealer’s son who mourns the loss of his mother, finds solace in a mysterious book entitled The Shadow of the Wind, by one Julián Carax. But when he sets out to find the author’s other works, he makes a shocking discovery: someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book Carax has written. In fact, Daniel may have the last of Carax’s books in existence. Soon Daniel’s seemingly innocent quest opens a door into one of Barcelona’s darkest secrets--an epic story of murder, madness, and doomed love.

All reviews say this is a rich and complex book that's part mystery, part love story, part ode to literature, and more.  So The Shadow of the Wind should make for a great discussion!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks for setting this up - great pick! Forgot to mention how funny it was that a Sugus candy can cure anything.... Punched in the face? Have a Sugus candy! Found out someone died? Here, have a Sugus... :)
