Speaker / Discussion:
We all know that people are buying more and more things online. Some will bemoan the rising tide of consumerism, while others sing the praises of this economic stimulus. However, regardless, some are finding ways to help thousands of causes through this increase in online monetary transactions. Our discussion will cover the different methods currently seen in the market (such as adding an extra dollar at checkout), growing trends to be aware of and ways to contribute/take advantage of this growing movement of trying to "save the world" through e-commerce.
Michael Geer, the founder of CauseCart will be leading us in this discussion, as we see how this can help and affect our BKTK community. MG's CauseCart is pushing a clever model of making the online shops give to the causes chosen by the consumer, allowing the consumer to help their chosen cause/charity without donating their own money. CauseCart is pre-launch, but you can sign up to be one of the first users at http://causecart.com.
Social / Networking:
Yes, REAL social networking, not the kind on The Internets. ;) Come meet and mingle with fellow designers, developers, technologists, and bloggers from Brooklyn and beyond, in an informal setting. As always, the venue is BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite beer, wine, or other beverage. Light snacks will be provided, as well as cups.
I hope to see you on 3/28!
