The BlackWallStreet is a well-kept secret that is not taught in our history books. Black Wall Street was a completely black-owned and black-operated community with the first business being a rooming house and grocery store built by Gurley in 1906. There were 600 businesses in that Greenwood District ­– Black Wall Street, owned and operated by African Americans. They lived in their own section of Tulsa, OK and did their business thing – their entrepreneurial thing. What happened on the tragic day of June 1, 1921 should NOT go unnoticed!

By December 1921, only six months following that fatal morning of violence, the people on Greenwood rebuilt 764 residences, seven churches, 24 one-story, 24 two-story and four three-story brick buildings, a movie theater, a garage, two gas stations, a number of rooming houses and numerous one and two-room shanties. This happened as a result of UNITY and a determination to succeed!

We may not be able to help the survivors see justice through the judicial system but we can help them see justice through our successful efforts and accomplishments by helping re-build the Black Wall Street through out the US. We as Black American business owners/entrepreneurs need to STOP back-stabbing each other and learn how to support each other if we are to get it back together in order to regain our strength and learn the importance of the entrepreneurial spirit that was evident of the Black Wall Street. This is exactly what non-blacks do not want to happen. The ball really is in our court, so let's regain our strength through education and knowledge...that's when we regain our power!
