Hey there!

I'm working with sprout (, which is a
science education nonprofit based in Somerville (We're actually
right outside Davis at 339R Summer St, and you should feel free
to drop by sometime), and we're just launching our first set
of community programs. We're running a bunch of them, ranging
from lockpicking to computational design (You can check them
all out at, but I thought you
guys might be particularly interested in these ones that use the

ECOMODDING YOUR HOME (http://ecomod.eventbr...) ::
seminar focused on identifying and implementing simple
strategies to reduce electricity consumption. In this seminar,
we'll use a special power strip developed at sprout using the
Arduino. This power strip enables you to see how & when your
appliances use electricity and ensure they only use electricity
when you want them to—whether that means turning off your TV's
standby mode while you're at work or dimming your lamp when its
sunny outside.

DIGITAL GARDENING (http://dg.eventbrite....) :: This is a one
day workshop coordinated by Keith Simmons, co-designer of the
Wireplant () microcontroller kit. Hosted at
the MIT Museum, this workshop leads participants through the
basic electronics and practical skills needed to understand and
assemble an Arduino-controlled moisture sensor which can notify
you when your soil needs water.

THAT WAS EASY (http://thatwaseasy.ev...) :: Circuit
bending is the creative short-circuiting of electronic devices
like children's toys and digital synthesizers to create new
musical or visual instruments and sound generators. It's a
great entry point for exploring electronics, and in this
workshop your very own Jimmie Rodgers will lead participants
through a basic exploration leaving them with a noisemaker of
their own design at the end of the workshop.

I'd be happy to field any questions either about sprout or our
