Author Appearance and Book Talk: Jill McCorkle

I have read almost every one of Jill McCorkle’s novels and short story collections. Her new book is Life After Life, and she’ll be talking about it right in our own backyard. Should be interesting to hear her reasons for getting back to publishing fiction after a seventeen-year hiatus.

From the store website:
Jill McCorkle’s first novel in seventeen years, Life After Life, is alive with the daily triumphs and challenges of the residents and staff of Pine Haven Estates, a retirement facility, which is now home to a good many of Fulton, North Carolina’s, older citizens. McCorkle puts her finger on the pulse of every character’s strengths, weaknesses, and secrets. As she connects their lives through their present circumstances, their pasts, and, in some cases, through their deaths, she celebrates the blessings and wisdom of later life and infuses this remarkable novel with hope and laughter.

Jill McCorkle is the author of nine previous books—four story collections and five novels—five of which have been selected as New York Times Notable Books. The recipient of the New England Book Award, the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature, and the North Carolina Prize for Literature, she teaches writing at North Carolina State University and lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

This meetup event will start at 6:30 p.m. so we can find each other and get seats. I plan to arrive earlier than 6:30 to see if I can purchase a copy of Jill McCorkle’s new book. Look for me carrying a red backpack.

The author talk and presentation starts at 7:00 p.m.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend this event so I know who to look for.

Jill McCorkle is an engaging speaker and reader. It was great to hear her talk about writing and read from her new book. She's already working on her next book -- I hope she comes back to Boston when it's published.
