A little gentle walk round shibden valley, a nice sunday afternoon walk for people who dont want to do long distance walks. the walk is 4.5 miles in distance.

We will starts (outside the visitors centre next to shibden park car park at 11 am) finishes (near the ice cream van approx 2.5 hours from setting off) in shibden park.

Taking in the beautiful elizabethan shibden hall (a six hundred year old medieval timber-framed manor house. This Grade II Listed 15th century house is one of England’s oldest and was built in 1420, five years after the Battle of Agincourt). it is also thought to be the manor house Emily bronte had in mind when she created thrushcross grange in her novel wuthering heights, it was used in the 1991 film version of the book

Then up a short steepish hill to the top of beacon hill where we join the cobbled thoroughfare known as the magna via (this was the only route to halifax until 1741 when a new road was built), there is then a little section of walking on the main road before we walk up shibden beck, (there is a pub here called the shibden mill inn where will will stop for a refreshing drink), then its a little walk back to the park.

the shibden mill inn is a 17th century inn that has been sympatheticlly renovated to retain its original charm, low beams, antique furniture and log fires. dogs are welcome in the pub

Shibden Estate is located on the A58 Leeds / Bradford Road (Godley Lane), to the east of Halifax town centre.

It is accessible by bus numbers 681, 682, 548, 549, 509, 534, 227, 508, 226 from the Halifax, Bradford, Brighouse, Huddersfield and Leeds bus stations.

It is approximately 20 minutes walk (uphill) from Halifax town centre bus station and 25 minutes from the train station. It is also a 20-minute car ride from the M62 motorway.

if anyone does not know the area i would be happy to meet them in halifax town centre where we could walk to the park.

Car parking at shibden park from 9 am to 6 pm daily
30 pence per hour, £1 all day.

i have changed the meet time to 11 am, just incase anyone wants a snack at the top of beacon hill with its amazing views over halifax, ovenden moor, coley.
