Myself (Sue) and Steve doing a walk again...Meeting at 12.45 and setting off prompt at 1pm.
We have done this walk once before and thought it was challenging with beautiful views. It's 6 and half miles starting at the Dog and Gun pub, you will be pleased to hear there is another very small pub just under half way round (Wagon and Horses). It's described as a lovely moorland circuit, some steep inclines and steep descents so sticks advised. Views overlooking Oxenhope and the surrounding areas including Leeming reservoir and Leeshaw reservoir.
Not a walk for the faint hearted as the uphill trek back to the pub is breath taking in its own way lol but worth while as the pub is lovely. We can park in their lower car park but the Keithley and Worth Valley railway (Oxenhope Station) is about a mile to mile and half away, if anyone wants to come on the train, a lift up to the starting point can be arranged.
On our first attempt at this walk we got a little lost near the end and the walk got extended another mile and we ended up in a field saying "beware of the bull" but hopefully we can overcome that this time, but if you have a sense of adventure come along, as this walk is worth all the peaks and troughs :-)
Dogs welcome :-)
Strong legs advised in places...No straddlers at the back please, know your ability as the walk uphill back to the pub is a tough one.
I have just done another recce...didn't get lost either yay. So no beware of the bull signs.
It's harder than i remember but it was nearly 30 degrees today phew. You get great views over Oxenhope and surrounding areas which is a reward for all the hills on this walk. Some paths/roads en-route and some very steep down hill treks also...a bit of everything. We go from 660 feet above sea level at Oxenhope station to 1110 and over on the Moorlands. The uphill walk from station back to the Dog and Gun took me 30 mins and it's up hill with a few level bits thrown in for you to catch your breath. But once you see the pub all is forgotten :-) Over grown in some places so a machete could come in handy ha ha. Few brambles n nettles in places but nothing to cry over.
Very up and down challenging walk, but thoroughly enjoyable. 6.5 miles and just under 700 cals burned...deep joy.
