Mid March Mayhem - South Crosland, Beaumont Park Circular

****UPDATE:****

I  only managed a 'half recce' on Sunday 16 Feb.... (not because it was a hard walk or longer than I thought, but because of the slow coaches I'd dragged along with me..).....The pub is happy for us all to pile in after the walk and they also allow dogs as well....... I did try to convince him we wouldn't drive out the locals.

Quite a leisurely 6-7 mile circular walk starting in Netherton.  We'll head up to South Crosland then across to Beaumont Park where we can stop for a lunch break.  We then go back down to Armitage Bridge and up through Honley woods skirting both Honley and Netherton. We cut across fields towards Healey House (subject to the cows not being back in the field for Springtime..!!) and back round to the pub for a well deserved pint.

There are no 'big' hills to contend with and plenty of views. There is some country road walking but not a great deal. Dogs are welcome.

The car park at the pub is small but there are plenty of side roads nearby.  I will double check whether the pub is happy for us to all pile in there and if it is also dog friendly.

Thanks Annie, a bright and breezy walk to put some spring in our step. And you didn't neglect the mud devotees ... the diversion from the concrete to wade in the farmyard made boots worth cleaning after all.

Was feeling a tadge fragile (self inflicted) so good to get some fresh air... nicely varied walk and "hair of dog" was appreciated at end! Thanks Annie for leading and lovebirds for back marking.

I've only just got my phone number back after losing my phone on the moors while recceing with Gareth so I hope no one has been trying to get in touch. If anyone wants a lift or to car share I'm coming from Deighton, avoiding Leeds Road because it's a home match and going Fartown, Birkby, Gledholt way to Meltham Road.

Oh! I came to put myself on the waiting list because I've finally got my rotas for March and was surprised to see I've got the day off only to find I'm already down as attending. Excellent place hogging there! I must apologise but smugly.

    Hello Ann,
How difficult would you say this walk is for a beginner in comparison to the Lepton one before Xmas?

    February 22, 2014

    • Ann B.

It's actually quite a 'tame' walk in comparison to previous ones, so would be ideal for someone who is just starting to walk. Any hillls we go up are fairly gentle inclines.

Thank you, I managed the Lepton one...just so should be ok and I think I booked the last place.

Awe.. Sean and George aren't slow coaches.. they've only got little legs! ;-)

    1 · February 19, 2014

    • Ann B.

Sadly it wasn't the four legged variety which slowed us down but the two legged ones who meandered along and wouldn't shut up talking...... :-)
