I’m Jim Patteson, the founder of this group. Many years ago, I studied with Japanese Zen Master Dainin Katagiri and later returned to college where I earned a Ph.D. in Buddhist Philosophy.
If you are interested in spiritual growth, and have reason to believe that Buddhism has something to offer you, this group would be helpful. It is not just for card-carrying Buddhists (though some of us are), it is for anyone who wants to benefit from a 1500 year-old tradition of mental training that has proven itself (scientifically) to be effective in reducing anger, fear, depression and other negative emotions, resulting in a more balanced, peaceful, happy state of mind. Many people from other faiths or no faith study Buddhism for that reason and benefit greatly from it. For others, it is a religion or a spiritual path, and their goal is full enlightenment: for their own sake, and so that they can most effectively help others put an end to their suffering.
