The most interesting development in the field of psychology over the past decade has been in the area of contemplative neuroscience. Using brain imaging technology, we have learned that brain function and structure can be changed by the practice of meditation. In addition, hundreds of studies each year are now published on the positive effects of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. This talk and discussion will tell the story of how Tibetan Buddhism and psychological science have converged to create a unique hybrid: the American Meditation Tradition.
Charles Pierson, Ph.D. is a psychologist at the Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center. He teaches classes on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in Buffalo.
