Regular Monthly Meeting of the Alamance Makers Guild (CNC Machining)

Its time for the next open meeting of the Alamance Makers Guild!

The topic for this meeting is Digital Fabrication, in specific I'll (Ben Harris) be giving a demonstration of CNC Machining with my ShopBot Desktop CNC Router.  I'll start with some basic principles, explain how the machine works, show off the design (CAD/CAM Software) i.e. Partworks (a ShopBot Branded version of V-Carve Pro from Vectric) We'll end up by cutting something out with the machine.

(A couple of volunteers to get to the meeting early at 6:30 and help me unload the machine from my car, and then reload it again at 9:30 are highly appreciated!)  Its not extremely heavy, just a little awkward and may have to go around a couple of corners.

On our agenda:

Presentation: Digital Fabrication with the ShopBot Desktop
Discussion/Questions on CNC Machining

If Time: Discussion of Future Plans (for those interested)

Question: Pizza from MiMi's for Dinner worked out really well last time.  Would folks like to kick in $3 to do this again?  Would you rather do a pot-luck with hors d'oeuvres and light snacks?  Or do you not want to eat at all?  (please answer the question when RSVP'ing)

Please RSVP (going/not-going/number of guests) so we'll know how to plan for this meeting.

You asked for us to share ideas for show and tells. I would like to learn more about John Linville's Fahrfall. I am interested in both the software and the hardware aspects of the retrofit. The more detail the better.

This is the first meetup I've attended with this group. I am still thrilled about the diversity of interests exemplified at this meeting. The desktop cnc presentation was very informative.

Hey Everyone, please make sure to answer the question about Dinner at this meeting. No Food / Doing MiMi's Pizza Again / Pot Luck. We'll go with the majority opinion. (I'll make an announcement later next week about what we'll do)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
