Feb 17th Potluck Featuring Peter Ormond with Recipes by Alissa Cohen

This month's potluck will feature a Mini-workshop with Peter Ormond on 'Choosing Community Co-operation' there's a 'green' topic! A life-long learner and engineer, Peter Ormond is active with various Green projects in Hamilton, ON. This includes featuring his home - The Green Cottage - in Hamilton's Open Doors event each year. The Green Cottage features solar hot water and solar electric systems, raised bed gardens, exsulation, rainbarrels, composters (etc.) and is trimmed completely with reused wood. The home also lacks a microwave, stove, fridge, air conditioner and clothes dryer. Besides being active with various sustainably-minded groups in Hamilton, Peter also enjoys writing stories that poke fun at today's realities, and participates as a playwright and actor in Hamilton's Fringe Festival each summer. His website is:
During Peter's 20 minute active discussion, we'll review some possible ways to be more co-operative within our communities. We'll each review a list of suggestions, and then speculate on taking it further. Areas of focus will include home, food, work and play. This is a great forum to share ideas, however wonky they may seem!

And this month, we invite you to make recipes by Alissa Cohen. If you don't yet have her books, you can order them on-line, check you local library's holdings on-line, make use of the inter-ligrary loan request site, check out the recipes published on her web-site, or look through Alissa's blog. Her titles include 'Raw Food For Everyone' and 'Living on Live Food'. She also has a cd entitled 'The Power of Living on Raw Food'. You can see what other's are already bringing to our potluck by checking for a file posted at Please use coconut nectar as the sweetener in recipes that call for one in honour of the bees and those with a blood-sugar issue. If your dish contains onions, please bring a single portion without any for one of our members who is allergic to them. Please let us know if you have allergies of any kind. And please use all raw organic ingredients.

We look forward to seeing you on the 17th!

Wow! That was awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed the food from this author and the people I shared this experience with. Peter led a very interesting conversation on being green and put out some great ideas about making it a community initiative. What a great introduction to the raw vegan community.
