The Burlington Writers Workshop is a free creative writing workshop for all Vermonters. Whether you've been writing for years or you're new to the craft, you will enjoy the company of our intelligent, passionate workshop members. We discuss fiction, creative nonfiction, journalism, poetry, drama, screenplays--if you've written it, we'll read it and provide feedback for you. Our workshops are held at BWW Headquarters in Studio 266 on 266 South Champlain Street in Burlington. Join us, sign up for a workshop, and enjoy!

How much does it cost?
There is no charge. It's free! You may choose to make automatic monthly contributions ($12/month) to help pay for the public writing center and other expenses. Dues payments made through or through the "Donate" page at are tax deductible thanks to our fiscal agent, The League of Vermont Writers.


Who can join?
Anyone, though we prefer people over the age of 18 because our writing is often not suitable for children. If you're still in high school, you may enjoy the Young Writers Project.


What kind of writing do you discuss?
Any kind of prose and poetry. If you wrote it, we'll read it.


How do I get feedback for my work?
Sign up for a meeting. Attend it. And then ask the organizer of that meeting to put you on our schedule.


Where do you meet?
At Studio 266 on 266 South Champlain Street in Burlington. If you approach it from Pine Street, you'll find that it's across the street from Conant Metal and Light,  behind the Akido building, and next to Burlington Segways. Workshops in Montpelier are held at various locations, so check the individual event for an address.

Where do I find the reading materials for the next meeting?
Right here. If you're wondering what the reading assignment is for a particular meeting, consult the schedule for Burlington or Montpelier then look for something posted recently by someone with that name.

How long are the meetings?
Usually they last about an hour or an hour and a half.

How do I prepare for meetings?
Read this, please.

What if I haven't published anything?
That's okay! If you keep writing and revising your work and your goal is to be a published writer, then you'll succeed. And we'll help!

I want to help with the creation of your annual anthology, The Best of the Burlington Writers Workshop. How can I get involved?
You must be a member of the workshop to help with the book. That means you must join this group and provide feedback to your fellow writers. Once you're a member, you can participate, either by submitting work or editing or helping with the design.

I've heard the BWW is partnered with local organizations. Is that true?
Yes! BWW writers provide blog entries for The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. We also provide the content for Vermont Stage Company's 2013 production of "Winter Tales." We've worked with Burlington City Arts in writing about art. And we're always open to partnering with other organizations that want to provide opportunities for BWW writers to showcase their work.
