The C-ville Skeptics Group Message Board › Not quite an atheist...

I'm wondering if it will be a problem that I'm not quite an atheist. I strongly believe in the separation of church and state and consider my spiritual views a coping mechanism for understanding my place in the microcosm, not the dictations of a god on high. I guess I just want to make sure that it won't be a problem that I'm not an outright atheist.

I'm new here as well to the forum and I feel kind of the same way. I would consider myself more of an agnostic. I feel that organized religions are the product of man, and the stories were written to support the religion. However, I can't completely rule out the idea that there is some higher power out there, maybe even a creator. I just don't think that the biblical christian God is it. At least, not as written. Same for any religious text. They just seem like ancient tools that were created to control the populous.

I've never been to a group meeting yet (I just signed up like a week ago!) so I don't know about the others but I would imagine a group of people who are all exactly alike in their beliefs would be a pretty boring meeting indeed! :P |
