Awesome information and great to have some speakers taking action. I look forward to seeing the difference in Calgary in say 10 years if the bylaw passes. Lets how other communities take this action as well. I'm building a home in the country. Great info for ensuring limited light pollution. Thanks!

If only it was possible to present this documentary to a larger audience. I am sure being aware of the consequences of light pollution would help to deal with this problem

I loved the movie and discussion, but was really disappointed Simon's parents couldn't leave him at home. The terrible behavior was distracting and I applaud the speakers for being able to keep on track with all that noise.
I've been to other Astronomy meet ups with wonderful kids who sat nicely and listened to the presentation with their parent or guardian who didn't have to chase them around the movie screen.

I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this! If I can, I'm going to attend the hearing. What was the date, April 8 at 9:30 am?

Please write letters to the editors of our local papers to raise public awareness of these issues. Here is one published in the Edmonton Journal:

    CITY'S LIGHTS TOO BRIGHT!

Jain, Atul. Edmonton Journal [Edmonton, Alta] 18 June 2009: A.15. I'd like to welcome ICLEI delegates to Alberta and hope they enjoy their stay here. One fact that Edmonton doesn't brag about is that it is the No. 1 city for "light-pollution intensity." This extremely serious problem is fatal to wildlife, seriously disrupts the cycles of local plants and animals, which require darkness at night and also has serious human health consequences. Since wildlife diversity is one of ICLEI's major issues, I hope delegates take the time and have the patience to educate Edmonton city councillors on the seriousness of light pollution, so council can finally find the guts and intelligence to properly regulate commercial lighting in Edmonton.
