Cambridge Wine and Dine Book club is for anybody who enjoys a good book and enjoys talking about it over lunch and a glass of wine. We meet on the second Sunday of the month (unless agreed otherwise for whatever reason), usually now at a restaurant in Cambridge itself. One never knows what riff raff one might find beyond the city walls.
Usually about 30 of us meet for lunch. In order to have a reasonably orderly discussion without bothering other patrons, we've recently tried to book venues where we can get a separate room. This ensures that only we are responsible for cleaning up the blood on the floor if the discussion becomes too heated.
At present we're trying to get by without imposing a formal RSVP limit, which has worked (as of March 2015) for the last several months. If numbers creep too far above 30 and if the group becomes too hard for the organiser on the day to control, we may have to consider limiting the numbers. At present a whip, loud voice and denial of service ensure that all can contribute.
An overspill group has run recently the week after the full meeting. This is very much smaller, doesn't take place over lunch and has generally been in a pub. You could participate in both meetings if you wish. This could be regarded as a taster for new members.
We always need help organising venues and hosting. Please volunteer to help, it will guarantee you a place at lunch and your name on the Honour Board if we ever get round to making one.
