Join Paul F on a hike to Sparrowhawk Tarns. We'll start a 30 min drive from Canmore, on the Spray Trail across from Spray Reservoir. We'll climb through the forest for 300m or so before hitting the subalpine. After that, we'll wander around the expansive basin checking out the tarns, pikas, fossils, and great views.
I can't find any post-flood trail reports, so you should be comfortable with some minor bushwhacking if we lose the trail or if turns out to be washed out. Total elevation gain is approximately 680m (2230 ft) with a round trip distance of 10km (6.2mi). Assume we will be gone all day.
Come prepared for all types of weather. Bring a good rain coat, multiple warm layers, a hat, gloves, food, water and a headlamp or flashlight - just in case. I've never been here, so I really don't know what to expect - this is NOT a guided hike. Bring your good attitude and sense of adventure and join me in exploring!
Here's someone else's trip report, which should give you a taste of what we hope to find:
