Hike the scenic Eno River in Durham

The Eno River is not very far (under 30 minutes from Raleigh/Durham border) but has great trails, none very long or steep with historic mill sites. The "River" is not exactly the Colorado and doesn't appear especially deep but it does look clear. It goes into the Neuse and then Falls Lake.

Here is where it is located: Map and directions

And some general information about the park:

General Info

Here is a trail map. I usually go off to the right on the Pea Creek Trail which then goes into other trails but I am just as happy to go in the other direction on the Cole Mill Trail.

Park map

As per Leslie's very helpful detailed instructions, let's meet at the entrance at the intersection of Umstead & Cole Mill (NOT the one at the very end of Cole Mill Rd) which would be the Cole Mill Access Area and not the Few's Ford Access Area. Cell phone is[masked]-5861. I hope I can get reception.

Meeting area trails

And, if you really like the area, check out the annual Festival for the Eno on the July 4th weekend. It's $15 a day.

Nine of us turned out for a scenic hike along the Eno on a bright Saturday morning. Steve did a great job organizing the event, Howard lead the charge on the Pea Creek and Dunnagan trails. A few spots were wet but overall good trail conditions. It was great to meet all of you - such a range of backgrounds and interests! Upbeat talk, mindful observations of the forest flora, flexible pace for photo opps, beautiful scenery, and a couple of old graves to intrigue made for a worthwhile morning adventure.

I regret that I'm not going to be able to make it there this morning. Have fun!

I fear it will be very slippery along the river so I will not attend. I look forward to the next event!

Thanks, Leslie, for catching the error. It was a cross-posting error. This event is cross-posted to one or two other Meetup groups.

Sounds like you have been there more than the few times I have. I thought the instructions to enter on the Cole Mill Road entrance to get to the parking lot would be sufficient but can you suggest something that would be more clear or precise? I did mention other trails but not in the context to meet on them or near them or that we would be taking them.

Yes, I've hiked there a lot, and have organized many meetups there. There's more than one entrance to th park off Cole Mill Rd. If you want to hike Pea Creek trail or Cole Mill trail, then you want the entrance at the intersection of Umstead & Cole Mill (NOT the one at the very end of Cole Mill Rd). In other words, you want the Cole Mill Access Area and not the Few's Ford Access Area.

I'm a newcomer to Durham. People rave about the Eno but you all actually get out there! I'm excited to join you on Saturday! If I'm not there, send the posse out to find me...may have gotten lost finding the start spot :-).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
