We are pleased to announce "The Abstract Nude," part of the Spring / Summer 2014 Figurative/Fine Art Nude Photography Workshop Series at the Carriage House!
The workshop will explore the world of the some of the great abstract nude photographers, including the fabric techniques and high contrast work of Erwin Blumenfeld, the mirror distortion techniques of Andre Kertesz, and the body distortions of Bill Brandt, and the shadow and object work of Frantisek Drtikol. Erwin Blumenfeld, one of the photographers we cover in the workshop, described his aesthetic intention as "to distill the unreal out of the real".
The model for the workshop will be Grace (image by Peter Thornton) a yoga instructor and art nude model who has done several workshops for us before. We will be working with Grace to do some art nude Yoga poses, as well as more traditional abstract nude concepts.
The three hour workshop (7 pm to 10 pm) will include 4 different examples of abstract figurative photography including:
1) Out of context (images which have no background reference, or whose backgrounds do not fit any realistic scenario, such as geometric shapes and shadows).
2) Out of proportion (images that are distorted in camera)
3) Unreal or unexpected objects (with elements that are juxtaposed in strange relationships).
4) Occult or hidden (deep shadows or fabrics that almost, but not quite, conceal the body)
We will use both studio strobe and continuous (hot) lights in the workshop, but previous familiarity with studio lighting is not required (but is recommended!)
By the end of the workshop, you will have had an introduction to abstract fine art nude photography and a set of images to add to your portfolio.
Workshop Fee: $ 150 includes Model Release and use of Pocket Wizard.
Workshop Reservation Fee/Deposit of $50Required.
Workshop Participation: Limited to 6 photographers
