William Schmidt, a World War II veteran and a former prisoner of war, is the grand marshal of the Hilliard Veterans Day Parade. Schmidt is past commander of the Ohio Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War.
Numerous Central Ohio posts of the American Legion, all members of the 12th District of the Ohio Division of the American Legion, are expected to participate, as well as other military support organizations.
This year, the parade will begin at 7:00 p.m. exiting the Franklin County Fairgrounds via Columbia Street. It will turn right, and proceed north on Norwich Street to Main Street, then left, and travel southwest and south on Main Street, to Grace Street. It will turn left on Grace Street, traveling east on Grace Street to Lattimer Street where it will conclude in the parking lot of the American Legion post.
A short ceremony and program will be conducted, including a rendering of Taps and a rifle volley, at the Tillman Veterans Memorial, in the parking lot of the American Legion at Grace and Lattimer streets.
Please note: If your community's Veterans Day event is not posted on our Meetup site, please send details to Joan Mag. so that it can be posted.
