National Second Amendment March (take note)

Folks,

I have been notified of this "National Second Amendment March" by a number of people and have seen it on the internet in various places.  Some of you may have seen or heard about it too.  I strive to ensure that any event posted on this Meetup site is accurate and I do my best to vet each of them.  Since this event seems to be gaining a bit of "steam", I thought I should notify you of it and point out some issues with it so you can make an informed decision.

Having said that, I did some checking into this event and as far as I can tell, this was started by someone on FaceBook.  There is no sponsor.  The person is striving to have a National Second Amendment March at ALL STATE CAPITALS with a million people participating.  In my internet checking, I see that on a number of posts on various other social media sites, that there are a number of people from Ohio planning to go and driving in from all parts of the state.  People are also talking about openly carrying and bring their long guns.  As far as I can tell, there is no organizer.

I am sure that this idea started out as nothing more than to show Washington that "We The People" do not want more gun control; however, in my opinion, this has not been well-thought-out.  Here's what I mean:

  • I believe you need a permit to do this.
  • Without a permit, can you only rally on the sidewalk?
  • What is the route or meeting place?
  • Who is the spokesperson for the event?
  • Is everyone clear on concealed carry laws around the Statehouse?
  • Do the police know?
  • etc.

Again, in my opinion, with no organization/organizer, this could cause more harm.  The media will find the most outrageous sign or person to speak to and hold them up as the "norm" for regular law-abiding citizens who are responsible gun owners.

Just something to think about on this one.  Thanks.

If you are DEFINITELY not going to attend this meeting, simply RSVP "no" to this announcement and you will not receive further emails regarding it.

I would love to be there but I have to go to work. These things need to be held on weekends. You will get bigger numbers.

Why not have this next when folks working may go ? How about say 730 pm? If you do not work d/town you must take day off , or a lot of a working day off . Or Saturday , be great to go !!!!!

Very simple, Tim. This is a message to the legislators. There was another rally on Saturday, January 19.

Hi folks...I see that a number of you have posted comments about this upcoming march. When I posted this toward the beginning of January, there was a lot of "talk" about it on the internet. (As far as I can tell, the "chatter" has calmed down a bit.) Then, on January 19th, Gun Appreciation Day happened. The intent of Gun Appreciation Day was to show your support at local gun ranges, stores and shows (check it out on our Meetup site on January 19th). Gun Appreciation Day morphed into Second Amendment supporters rallying at state capitals across the country. Seemingly a duplicate of this march scheduled on February 8th. As I said in the description, this march was started by someone on FaceBook. I am not a FaceBook user, so I cannot log into FaceBook to get the latest. If one of you is a FB user and can get more information for what is going on in Ohio, please post a comment here. I have not heard anything new on this in weeks. Thanks. - Joan

Thanks for the research and the heads up Joan! Rallies can have a positive or negative effect depending on the accurate reporting by the Media.

I don't get it. Wasn''t there a 2nd amendment rally that drew almost 900 at the statehouse (on the sidewalks) just 2 weeks ago? And this is on a Friday??? I think having a rally on the sidewalks on a Friday is asking for trouble. Just my opinion. Especially after just having one two weeks ago. the only reason there was a good turnout then was because it was a Saturday. Does anyone think its possible that someone may have an ulterior motive for having these 2nd amendment rallies so frequently? Maybe someone is HOPING there will be an incident. Just my opinion-but with the anti gunners being so devious and hell-bent on finding reasons to take our guns-I'm suspicious of everyone. And you're correct Joan-a permit is needed in order to have a rally on the grounds.
