My biggest problem always seems to be too much information or not enough when telling a story. I would like help to reach the ideal middle ground during characterization, back story, and world building. I've also had trouble in the past with all of my characters sounding and acting the same, so it's been something that I've been trying to correct and would like some feedback on whether I've made any progress.
Part of my job is to write and review technical reports, which is not as different from creative writing as one might think. I like to think that I can both give and receive criticism and am looking forward to discussions about how to most effectively reach readers in my work.
I write mostly fantasy and military science fiction in my personal writing. Professionally, my writing is entirely technical, including reports summarizing large quantities of data in the text and accompanying figures. I include this because I am not entirely sure what types of critiques other writers in the group might be looking for and I feel like I can provide feedback on items of a technical nature as well as creative.
I've been writing since I was 13 years old and it has always been a dream of mine to become a professional writer. I'm currently an professional geologist in the Harrisburg area and manage environmental cleanups.
