Sorry I missed this again, my dad died march 30th and still working the estate issues.  Very mind boggling!

My two cents, watch American Idol when Simon was on versus The Voice.  The Voice critiques the singers with calm grace and STILL gets the point across!  We can choose to choose our words wisely, kindly, and gracefully and the one listening will get the point.  I am reading the book, Bird by Bird, maybe everyone would benefit from reading this book.  It's basically about how hard it is to be a writer!

I have rhino skin, BUT not everyone does.  I hope when I do get to show up, I will not treat everyone how I can be treated, but to remember that everyone has feelings and not to hurt those feelings.  People flourish with praise, so find something that you like about what they wrote.  What you don't say will speak volumes!

There appears to be some acrimony over our recent Meetup, and the crits that were presented. Please keep some things in mind: We are in this to help each other grow as writers. It is vital to utilize empathy (a quality that should be in no short supply among writers) when presenting critiques. We need to keep our comments constructive in nature. That said, developing rhino hide is also part of becoming a successful writer.

Personally, I will never shoot the message merely because I am put off by the messenger. If you tell me my story is flotsam, I will not take your lack of tact as a personal attack; I will simply ask you to elucidate. I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue. Don :)
