June Meetup & Theresa Peters Tribute

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I schedule this meetup.  One of our wonderful members, Theresa Peters, passed away yesterday.  Theresa was the beautiful, witty, opinionated red-head.  She was 36 and you may remember her as she recounted her transplant story.  She was born with Cystic Fibrosis, but received a double lung transplant 10 years ago.  She was extremely smart, knew her disease inside & out, and she seemed to manage it effortlessly.  If you attended our last meetup, at Aqua, Theresa was sitting to my left and was not a shining fan of The Light Between Oceans.  She did, however, LOVE The Fault in our Stars by John Green, so that will be our June book.  It is a fitting tribute to her as this book is about chronic illness and Theresa was so surprised by how well it captured the nuances of that incredible challenge.

It's a quick read, which is why I've scheduled this just 2 weeks after our May meetup.  I know it's hot in June, but Aqua was Theresa's last book club with us, so dress cool.  We'll raise a glass to Theresa and celebrate what she brought to our group.  I know that I will miss her dearly.

Thank you and I hope to see you all in June.

Janice - I do apologize for the last minute postponing as this June meetup was extremely important to many in our group, albeit an emotional one. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans and I was stuck with my son in our storm room (with the news reporting a tornado tracking directly for us) while communicating with 3 of members who were already at the Marriott. We had to make a last minute call - it was certainly not representative of what our group does. Hope you'll join us again.

Sorry that happened. A few of us ran into one another in the foyer and waited a bit but then left once we learned there was a tornado warning nearby and the aqua terrace was more aquatic than we planned for.

I'm afraid I am going to have to miss the discussion, too. It looks like this downpour isn't letting up and my route to and from the Marriott is through a flood zone. I loved the book!

I really loved this book and was looking forward to meeting everyone but between a splitting headache, the crosstown starting to flood, and the tornado warnings, I think I'm going to stay in tonight...

If it's raining & storming as it is now, we will meet in the bar at the inside restaurant, if it slacks off, we'll still shoot for the Aqua Terrace. I will post a last minute update from my phone, just in case. See you soon.

I invite everyone to hear Judy Goldman, author of "Losing My Sister," at the Charleston JCC, Sunday June 23 @ 4 p.m. It's free and should be a great discussion about an uplifting memoir. A booksigning and reception follow Ms. Goldman's presentation. For more information, contact [masked].

I am so sorry to hear this. I was at the April meeting and Theresa seemed amazing. Theresa seems likes someone worth remembering. I hope others, who knew her better and feel comfortable with talking about it, will share some memories.
