*Please join us for the first class February 26th or the second class March 5th. After this class, please wait for the next round of classes to begin (or contact me and we'll discuss it!). Grazie.*
*Time: 6:45-7:45 pm
*Dates: 10 Wednesdays: Feb 26, Mar 5, Mar 12, Mar 19, Mar 26, Apr 2, [NO CLASS APR 9], Apr 16, Apr 23, Apr 30, May 7
*Instructors: Erin & Gian Paolo
*This class is good for: Beginners who know some basics (like essere and avere in the present tense, numbers, possessives, the idea of masculine and feminine, how to make nouns plural, how to match adjectives and nouns) and want to go further.
NOTE: This is a great foundation for people who want to go on and study Italian. If what you're looking for is a course focusing only on the Italian you'll need to survive on your next trip to Italy, check out the Essential Travel Italian course instead.
*Description of class: This is an all-round course to continue your introduction to Italian, and we will take it slowly, covering one chapter over two weeks so that you can master the material at this early stage. We will practice what we learn with a lot of conversation every class, and strengthen skills with drills and exercises in the book. By the end you will know more basic conversational Italian and will have a strong foundation to continue on in the language.
We will cover chapters 6-10 in the yellow book and learn:
- how to tell the date & time
- how to talk about the weather, family
- the verbs to say (dire), to go (andare), to come (venire), plus basic conjugation of -are verbs
No prerequisite required, but Pronunciation & Intro to the Italian language is a good class to take beforehand if you'd like some extra help in that area.
*Homework: You will be expected to memorize the vocabulary in each chapter and to complete the exercises in the book (see below) that are assigned.
*Price: $70 for 10 weeks ($60 for cardholders), due at the first class you attend by cash or check (note that checks will not be cashed until after the 2nd class, after you’ve decided that you want to continue).
*Materials needed before class starts: We will use the textbook “Italian Now!” 2nd edition by Marcel Danesi; please purchase before the class begins (you can find it on Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/1438000065 for about $15 and at some book stores locally). This will be the same textbook used in Comprehensive Beginner’s 1 and Comprehensive Intermediate, should you continue on in Italian. You will also receive additional handouts most weeks.
*NOTE ABOUT REGISTRATION: The minimum number of students for this class is 3. If fewer than 3 people sign up, this class will not go forward. Thanks for understanding! (Contact Erin about tutoring with Gian Paolo if you're interested in that option.)
