Go check out another Italian festival near us!
From the website: "We are excited to host the 5th annual Hilton Head Island Italian Heritage Festival. This event gets bigger every year and this year's celebration will be no exception. The big news is that we have moved the festival location to Honey Horn. As always, the festival is a robust celebration of Italian culture with food and live entertainment. Our crowd-pleasing grape stomping contest will return as will our pizza eating contest – we'll have some new events too, so don't miss it!
The festival will offer a full slate of activities for locals and visitors. A number of booths will be dedicated to traditional Italian foods, such as cheeses, breads, pasta, fish, meatballs, sausage and calzones, and delicious sweets, including Italian ice, gelato, biscotti and zeppolis – many sponsored by local restaurants. The festival will also feature a special events stage where attendees can enjoy a grape stomping contest, reminiscent of the iconic I Love Lucy episode, a pizza-eating contest, and a "best restaurant" contest for island bragging rights.
Cooking enthusiasts / "foodies" will not want to miss the festival's variety of unique cooking demonstrations. Come learn how to make perfect pizzelle (waffle cookies), homemade sausage, fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese, and limoncello – an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy.
For the sports-inclined, the festival will offer bocce (one of Italy’s national pastimes), a golf challenge and stickball – participants can learn and play, or just watch. Attendees can also test their strength on the High Striker (hammer & bell), as well as test their aim at the dunk tank.
The Hilton Head Italian Heritage Festival will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014, 11 am – 4 pm,
at Honey Horn – rain or shine. No pets please!"
(It's not necessary to RSVP, but you can to let others know you're going; you can arrange to carpool or meet up with others in the comments. There is no $1 meetup fee for this event.)
