Update on Workshops, Social Meetups, Trip to Italy and more! - Directly from Carlo (a couple of critical issues)

Ciao a Tutti!

We have a lot of exciting news this week! There should be something for everybody!

1. Social Meet-ups

a. This weekend is our party at Taylor’s and everybody that is going should have her address and contact information now. I look forward to seeing everybody there.

b. In addition we have been adding to an already great list of social opportunities coming up. In fact we have added four more since last week alone! We have private parties (at private residences) scheduled at 3 different locations, Hanahan, West Ashley and Historic Downtown! These events at private residences usually fill up quick so you really may want to RSVP very soon! We also have another food workshop coming up at Bacco that will be something different as we are moving on from Cheese making which was a huge hit by the way. Definitely do wait to long to RSVP for that and we will be adding a Tiramisu workshop soon at yet another sponsor location. A lot of cool things coming our way! Having said that I do also need to say that we have to events scheduled for march that we need to see RSVP’s for this week yet, before Sunday and the is the Wine Tasting scheduled for next week and the dance scheduled for March 18th. Both of these events have minimum participation requirements so that we can meet the cost of hosting these events so if we do not see enough RSVP’s before Sunday for these events we will need to cancel them and that is fine if there is not sufficient interest, but if you are interested but haven’t rsvp’d yet then please do so soon so we know what direction to go in. Details and RSVP available at

c. I want to thank the members who volunteered to host a social event at your home in the upcoming months. It is because of you, the members of this group that this group is what it is today. Thank you. We do still have two weekends that we are looking for host homes for which are May 19th and June 9th. You can choose to host it Friday evening, Saturday evening or Sunday. You can set a limit on attendance and decide on exactly what you would like to do. Home meet-ups (social events) always seem to be more intimate and may a friendship have started at them. In the past folks have had pot-lucks, Italian movie night, game night, just a social gathering as well as many other ideas. It would be up to you. If you think you would like help our group by hosting an event, please email me. We greatly appreciate it.

2. Learning Italian

a. Next week we will be posting the polls where you will be able to vote on what classes are taught in your area during the next session! That is how we decided what was taught where this session so your vote really does count! So keep an eye out and when you see the polls come out on the workshops, please help us with our decision making process and vote. Thank you for all of your help!

3. Trip to Italy Poll

a. We have had a few more people respond to the 2013 Italy trip poll and we are leaving it up for one more week, I think that 9 have voted so far. If we get enough interest in a trip what we would like to do starting in March of this year is have a monthly skype video chat with Tina, the person in Italy putting this trip together so that everybody who has a vested interest in this trip would also have very real input into what we do, where we go, etc. We would be able to chat with her via skype (hopefully on a 42” screen – still working on that) but we would work it out so that we would all have an opportunity to speak with her (hopefully with video). We would also use these meeting to discuss trip business, etc: So if you have an interest in going, this week is your last opportunity to let me know so I can see if there is sufficient to pursue this. If there is not sufficient interest then we will not (obviously) pursue this path of action. You can vote at:

4. Facebook Page

a. For those of you learning the Italian language, one of the biggest challenges is not forgetting what you have learned in class due to a lack of opportunity to use your Italian. Well, we have something for you! The Il Tavolo Italiano Facebook page. The amount of people (both here and elsewhere) that is using this is growing! We have at least two people from Italy posting to it now, some from New York and of course mostly from here. It is a great opportunity to read and write in Italian or (sometimes in English) keep up with the latest on what is happening with the group and/or website. You can find it at:

5. YouTube Anniversary

Ok, Just a few geeky statistics here (nothing critical – it’s just in case you are interested). Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Il Tavolo Italiano videos on YouTube and here are a few statistics after our first year.
In the last 30 days there have been 6,095 viewings of one Il Tavolo video or another and 14 more people have subscribed to us meaning they are notified when we post a new video.
In the past 365 days we have had 29,232 viewings and we now have 86 subscribers but this I found particularly interesting. Out of the 29,000 plus time that somebody has view one or another of our videos only 3,114 of those viewings were taken place in South Carolina. The rest came from else where. In fact, we have had people watch our videos from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. But even so the U.S. only accounts for 10,944 viewings. By the way the states where people have watched our videos the most are, in this order; SC, CA, NY, IL and FL. So that means that over 18,000 of those viewings this past year came from overseas! In fact, our videos have been viewed in 134 different countries. The top five in this order are; US, Italy, UK, Australia and Canada. Now having said that I will add that this success on YouTube and $2.00 will buy me a cup of coffee at Waffle House LOL but I think it is really cool that so many people are using us to at least supplement their learning experience and none of it would be possible if it were not for you! Grazie Mille per tutto! Oh, by the way the top 5 videos had over 1,000 viewings each with #1 at 1,995 viewings. Our goal next year is to have 100,000 viewings with our top video receiving 10,000. Di nuovo, grazie mille per tutto! Siete Belli!

6. Pen pal program

a. We have some more members taking advantage of our free pen pal program and the reviews are coming back positive. It really is a cool experience. Many of you are advancing in your use of the Italian Language and you are ready to take it to the next level. This can help. Find out more at:

7. Sponsors

a. Just a quick reminder that if you have a good idea for a sponsor for our group, especially if you personally know somebody at this company, etc. please contact me regarding this potential and let’s see if we can increase the value of our membership cards. Grazie per il tuo aiuto!

Ci vediamo presto!
