Ciao a Tutti,
Well, you are correct in assuming that this means I (Chuck, Carlo, whatever) will no longer be leader of the Charleston Area Chapter of Il Tavolo Italiano. This doesn’t mean however the group will not go on. In fact you already have a great leader that has stepped up in order to lead the group. But first I feel I owe you an explanation.
Many of you are aware of the fact this past May I had lost my job and since then the money I made from the Italian Table and my somewhat diminished un-employment is all we have had to live on. We have been ok because we have had some savings to tap but now that savings is beginning to dwindle and I need to take the required steps to properly support and provide for my wife and mother.
Not having any formal education and limited experiences have put me at a grave disadvantage locally in finding a job. In reality the only responses I have gotten back locally have explained why I wasn’t qualified. Most have just not replied.
After a few months of failing to make any headway I decided 3 weeks ago to send my resume to a head hunter for my industry. Less than 24 hours after he received it I had a phone interview scheduled. The following week they flew Karen and me to their location for 4 days and three nights to see their facilities, meet the key people and see the area. A week later (last week) they put me through 3 days of testing (some timed, some not) followed by a 2 hour verbal interview with an Industrial Psychologist. Having convinced them I was normal or close enough anyway they decided to send me an offer. Well, we have come to an agreement. All that is left is to receive the written confirmation. Assuming that happens today, this will all be official and I will be physically leaving on September 28th (2 weeks from Friday) Karen will be here until around the end of the year.
I will continue to teach the Tuesday and Wednesday night classes until a new teacher takes over. Erin will take over the Wednesday night classes and Shannon will be taking over the Tuesday night classes. Both Shannon and Erin are qualified and capable to teach these classes. They have been studying with us for some time now, are advanced students and both have student taught.
In addition I have spoken to Erin at great length and she has agreed to take the leadership of the group. She understands the importance of her presence and I believe she will continue to (as I have done) to encourage you and let you make this group great! Since Erin is taking it over as a “Charleston Chapter of Il Tavolo Italiano” the membership cards continue to be of value earning you discounts both within the group and with our sponsors. There will be a little bit of slow down this autumn with the workshops but I believe Erin will be cranking it up again after the first of the year so (those of you who are students) don’t slack off too much! And if you are just starting to learn (or beginner/intermediate) try joining one of the four classes that are currently going.
Ok, so anyway, back to me. Here are some quick facts;
I physically drive away from here to move away on 9/28/2012
I will be in the classes until I can introduce and for one class teach with the new teachers.
At classes this week you will have the opportunity to get a refund if this makes you uncomfortable.
My last official social function and the final meetup I will be attending with be this Saturday at Osteria La Bottiglia. After that the group is all Erin’s. I hope to see as many of you as possible there because I don’t know if I will have anyother chance to personally say good bye to all of you.
I don’t know if anybody is going to put together a “good by Carlo” party so this may be it. l'ultima bacia e le lacrime nuove. There are so many of you that I would hate to leave without seeing but I understand there isn’t much time to organize anything. I will miss you all dearly. You have been my friends, my family, my confidants; you have shaped my dreams, my hopes and my approaches to problems. You have given me so much including your friendship, your trust, your support and your love. For this reason I can promise you my drive up I-26 on September 28 will be my own personal trail of tears. I will miss you immensely. I love you all.
And finally, just in case this email is the last thing you hear from me I want to say;
Grazie mille!
Siete fantastiche persone.
I am sure Erin will be writing soon to insure a smooth transistion.
Ciao a tutti, vi ricorderò nel mio cuore per sempre.
PS - I will still be available online and will maintain the Il Tavolo Italiano website, the facebook page, make youtube videos, teach on skype, etc. and if anybody is interested maybe we can still go to Italy together.
