Morris Island LIGHTHOUSE Sea Kayak Adventure

We will be launching from the Folly Boat Landing and taking the back way up the river and through the creeks to south end of Morris Island.

It can be a long paddle, but you will be rewarded by the shadow of the Morris Island Lighthouse and miles of deserted beach!

The cooler weather should make this a very enjoyable trip.

With the lower water temperature make sure you dress for immersion and bring along extra clothes to layer up or down as needed.

Bring plenty of water, maybe a thermos of something warm to drink and a lunch or snacks to keep your energy levels up.

Here's the plan:

10:30 am - Meet at Sea Kayak Carolina

11:00 am - Prompt departure from Sea Kayak Carolina to the Folly River boat ramp.

11:30 am - approximate launch time.  Groups generally take 1.5 - 2 hours of paddling to arrive at the south end of Morris Island.

1:45 am - Approximate time of low tide.

2:30 pm - Approximate time to leave Morris Island and return to the ramp.  Plan on being back at the Folly River ramp around 4:30 pm, give or take.

Free to paddle with your own kayak.  A limited number of kayak rentals may be available from Sea Kayak Carolina for $30.  You must call the shop in advance at[masked] if you wish to reserve a rental kayak.

This is a Meetup trip, not a guided tour.  All kayakers are paddling at their own risk and ultimately responsible for their own safety. Lifejackets must be worn properly fitted and zipped up.  This is a relatively protected trip in the Folly River to Lighthouse Inlet.  However... due to the length of the trip, kayaks of at least 14' in length are required.

Check here for the latest forecast for the area.

Please call the shop if you have any questions or concerns.

I had a great time. Thanks to Dennis and Don for organizing this. If you have a kayak, this should be a required trip. What a slice of Lowcountry beauty.

This paddle is a GO for tomorrow. The rain is forecast to be out of here before our launch time and clearing to sunny through the rest of the day. Might be a little breeze but we will be sheltered for most of the trip.

Hello everyone, I am excited about this new adventure. I am fairly new to kayaking, so I'm thinking this next trip might be a little much for me. Will there be any beginners going???

    • Dennis W.

While this would not be a trip for a complete beginner if you have some experience and endurance you might be ok. The paddle is about 5 1/2 miles in each direction.

Major bummer, I'm going to be in the mountains that weekend for a family vacation. On the bright side, I'll be near some whitewater if I am feeling like I want to brave the chill. Hope you guys have a great time, I'm envious.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
