We will be launching from the Folly Boat Landing and taking the back way up the river and through the creeks to south end of Morris Island.
It can be a long paddle, but you will be rewarded by the shadow of the Morris Island Lighthouse and miles of deserted beach!
The cooler weather should make this a very enjoyable trip.
With the lower water temperature make sure you dress for immersion and bring along extra clothes to layer up or down as needed.
Bring plenty of water, maybe a thermos of something warm to drink and a lunch or snacks to keep your energy levels up.
Here's the plan:
10:30 am - Meet at Sea Kayak Carolina
11:00 am - Prompt departure from Sea Kayak Carolina to the Folly River boat ramp.
11:30 am - approximate launch time. Groups generally take 1.5 - 2 hours of paddling to arrive at the south end of Morris Island.
1:45 am - Approximate time of low tide.
2:30 pm - Approximate time to leave Morris Island and return to the ramp. Plan on being back at the Folly River ramp around 4:30 pm, give or take.
Free to paddle with your own kayak. A limited number of kayak rentals may be available from Sea Kayak Carolina for $30. You must call the shop in advance at[masked] if you wish to reserve a rental kayak.
This is a Meetup trip, not a guided tour. All kayakers are paddling at their own risk and ultimately responsible for their own safety. Lifejackets must be worn properly fitted and zipped up. This is a relatively protected trip in the Folly River to Lighthouse Inlet. However... due to the length of the trip, kayaks of at least 14' in length are required.
