Christmas Eve lunch paddle!

And now for something completely different!

Cross the harbor in sea kayaks for lunch at the Marina Variety Store and Restaurant!

Here's the plan:

10:30 am - Meet at Sea Kayak Carolina to carpool/caravan to Sunrise Park on James Island.

11:00 am - Approximate launch time.

Short paddle across the harbor to the Marina Variety Store and Restaurant for lunch.

Should be back at Sunrise Park no later than 2:00 pm to make final preparations for Santa's arrival!

This is a Meetup trip.  All kayakers are paddling at their own risk and responsible for their own safety.  Lifejackets are required to be worn properly fitted and zipped up.  No alcoholic beverages during the activity.  Air and water temperatures have cooled down -- please remember that cotton clothing has no place on the water in these cooler temperatures.  Please wear appropriate synthetic clothing.  Feel free to stop into Sea Kayak Carolina anytime and talk kayak clothing!

Free to paddle with your own kayak.  If you need a rental kayak please reserve on-line here or call Sea Kayak Carolina at[masked]-7969..

Was great to get out on the water. Great paddlers and sunny weather...can't ask for anything better!

And, on top of the leg, I woke up with a sore throat and little congestion. Probably not the best idea for me to be out in the cold water. I was looking forward to this paddle, but I will have to bow out, I hope you guys have a great time!

I pulled a muscle in my leg this evening, it is hurting rather much. Going to see how it feels in the morning, will update accordingly.

Gotta bail out . My Honda Odyssey, which is my haul vehicle, is having the alternator replaced tomorrow. I'll see everyone on the New Year's Day paddle. Have a cool yule, y'all!

I'll be there & will also meet at sunrise. I may have a friend meeting us for the lunch only at Marina Variety. Approximately what time will we arrive there?

I'll be there, but will meet you guys at sunrise.

Good Monday morning! Forecast high for tomorrow is 58º F, harbor winds north at 10 knots. Please keep your rsvp current so that we know who to expect! Thanks, Scott

Thanks, Adam. I'm still planning on going, but it will be weather and wind pending. It sounds like a neat paddle.

What is the suggested skill level for this paddle? I have turned back in my 18' boat rather than cross the harbor in winter before! I'd like to go, but don't think I want to do too many wet exits in 55 degree water. Thanks.

Hey Scott, I will graciously ask Scott S. to correct me if I am wrong, however, as with all paddles it is highly dependent on the conditions on that particular day. My experience paddling in this area is that it really isn't any more difficult on average than any of the other river paddles, but again it depends on the specific conditions. Of course, the skill level is irrelevant when it comes to dressing appropriately for the conditions. Always dressing for immersion is of the utmost importance. It is better to be safe than sorry, hypothermia isn't fun for anyone. I hope that helps.

I like the sound of this one. It is different and could be a lot of fun! I might have to play hookie but I'll make it work.
