Situation: Looking to get out and work on your Open Water and Surf skills with peers? Than lets get out and enjoy the bumpy water. Here is the plan- free of Acronyms for those that know me:
Mission: MeetUp paddlers with basic Open Water and Surf Skills develop confidence and competence in a peer led paddle to develop proficiency.
Scheme of Maneuver:
• Phase I Movement to Contact: We’ll put in at 8AM from Folly River Landing riding the ebb tide out to the south end of the island. We’ll use the time riding south to work on strokes and rescues.
• Phase II Open Water Play: Once we arrive at the south end, we’ll scout out the surf and head out to play. We’ll reinforce each other with observations and shared experience to enhance proficiency in this environment.
• Phase III Return to Base: We’ll ride the flood tide back in to be off the water by 1PM.
Concept of Support: Bring requisite equipment, water, snacks and communications devices to enjoy our time on the water.
Risk Management: This is a mixed environment Meet Up that will include open-water, and surf zone paddling. It is expected that all kayakers are properly equipped with appropriate kit, properly dressed, and have appropriate open water, surf zone skills. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to include helmets. This is a Meet Up paddle and we will assist each other during the paddle and open water session but none of us are there in the role of instructor or guide and all who attend are all responsible for their own safety.
Command and Signal: This is a peer led paddle and all are responsible for an adequate assessment of participation based on their skill and proficiency in the environment.
