Moonlight Paddle Rantowles Creek

July 20 (rain date August 17): Evening (almost) full moon paddle on Rantowles Creek. Upper Rantowles is a quiet, remote mini-wilderness just 20 minutes south of Charleston. We’ll do a 4 or 5 mile loop trip through the marshes and maritime forest hummocks as the sun sets and the moon rises. Call Bill Turner at[masked] Please call Bill for the complete details.

Location is approximate. Check with Bill Turner for correct details.

5:25 PM. Though the sky looks marginally OK at the moment, radar shows a big mass of green heading up from the south and now past Beaufort, heading in this direction. This coincides with the written forecast, which is for heavy thunderstorms this evening. I'm inclined to trust them, exercise caution, and cancel for tonight. Sorry. May try again in a month; if so will let everyone know. Thanks,
    Bill

We will meet at 7:15 PM on the left side of the Sears store at Citadel Mall, west of the Ashley. It's a short drive to Rantowles Creek, so we'll hope to be on the water shortly before 8:00 The paddle should last no more than a couple of hours, so I would expect to be off by 10:00. If there is more than 50% cloud cover we will probably cancel. Please watch your email as the evening approaches for any updates or announcements I would bring long pants and a long sleeve shirt, or alternatively, bug spray, just in case. The Sierra Club does not have boats, so it's typical for participants to supply their own. However, if you'd like to go but don't have one, it's possible that arrangements can be made, so please ask. I hope to be able to make this paddle. Should I bring my Pungo or my Cape Horn 15 sea kayak?

I am a beginner kayaker. What skill level is required for the trip? I have a large sit on top , but don't know if I could keep up with more experienced paddlers. I would like to go though.

Are there rentals available or just bring your own?

@Kimba. either is fine as long as you can transport the boat.
Call Bill Turner at[masked] for the complete details. Sometimes there are people with extra kayaks and or room in a canoe.
