I will also add for you Francine that "jai la dalle" is sort of the equivalent of what my beloved Quebecois mean when they say "j'ai crissement faim" or "j'ai faim en crisse" I hope that made you smile :) it certainly made me smile the first time I heard it in the streets of Sainte-Foy...

Cordielement,

I'm French Canadian and my family lives in France and I've never heard this word before !!!!
Should we be teaching more familiar words that would be sure to be understood by all French speaking people? :)

My suggestion:

J'ai la dalle.

Translation: I'm very hungry.

familiar - not rude - language. 'Dalle', in the XIVth century referred to the mouth.

Hello Everyone,

I am needing submissions for our French Word of the Day. The ones that I have been sending are somewhat "easy" I feel and would like some more challenging ones

So please send me interesting words or non-traditional words (nouns, verbs, adjectives...anything). Make sure to use them in a French sentence and translate it into English as well.

Merci a tous!!
