Hiking at Moses Cone Park, Bass Lake (near Blowing Rock)

If you want to carpool or caravan from Charlotte to Bass Lake (our destination for the day), please meet at 7:45 at the Family Dollar Parking Lot just off Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood.  My cell phone # is[masked] for those who need directions to the meeting spot.  I have 2 dogs myself so there's likely no room for anyone else to ride with me, but I'll be glad to lead the caravan out of Charlotte and up the mountain.  Others can decide if they would like to carpool once we meet that morning.

From there we have about a 2 hour drive up to Blowing Rock.  We will meet Beth Bradshaw (our guide for the day) and hike for about 2 hours around the lake and up past the house on bass lake.  After our hike, we will venture into Blowing Rock for lunch at the Blowing Rock Grill.

This should be a fun adventure and something new and different for the group.  A couple of things to keep in mind...

1)  I'll keep my eye out on the weather 1 and 2 days prior to our trip.  If there's a significant chance of rain that day in Blowing Rock we will cancel and plan to do this another time.

2)  Plan to keep your dogs leashed (there's no off-leash access at the park)

3)  Wear comfortable shoes and bring some water with you...both for you and your dogs.

I've posted some links below for those who would like to view the website for Bass Lake and information about Blowing Rock Grill.  The restaurant is pet friendly for us to enjoy a fall lunch outside with the dogs.

Here's the Bass Lake webpage for directions and more information:

Beth's directions for those who want to travel on their own to Bass Lake:

Take 85-south toward Gastonia

Take 321 til you get into Blowing Rock

Take a left onto 321 Business (look for a large, log clad furniture store) - Take a left onto Hwy 221 at the fork in the road

A few miles on the right will be the "Bass Lake Access"

There's parking close to the lake or if parking is limited or full, you may park about an 1/8 mile up and walk down the hill to the main parking area.

Gorgeous day and wonderful company! Thanks so much to Heather, Hayes and Tom for driving up from Charlotte. I know it's a long day, but I hope all of you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Looking forward to it Beth! Give me a call a couple of weeks prior for us to work out details. I'm going to try and see if we can set up some type of car pool to ensure we keep our carbon footprint as light as possible that day. My cell is[masked]-9505. Thx again!

I changed it to September 22nd as I'm working on the 15th. There's a dog-friendly restaurant in Blowing Rock, so perhaps we could have lunch afterwards, or bring a picnic lunch and eat by the Bass Lake. We can decide a little closer to September.

Beth: I think that we would have a better turnout in the fall. I sent you a separate response message, but love the idea. How about something after sept.15th which would be much cooler and folks will be back from summer vacations.

Let me know what we need to do to make it happen and plan it!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
