There are many different investment vehicles available today. Over the last 30 years the most popular class has been investment “FUNDS” or collective investments.

Collective investment vehicles are often referred to as mutual funds, investment funds, managed funds, or simply funds.  They are promoted with a wide range of investment aims either targeting specific geographic regions (e.g. Emerging, Europe) or specified industry sectors (e.g. Technology). Around the world large markets have developed around collective investments and these account for a substantial portion of all trading on major stock exchanges.

A collective investment vehicle is a way of investing money alongside other investors in order to benefit from the inherent advantages of working as part of a group. These advantages include an ability to hire a professional investment manager, which theoretically offers the prospects of better returns and/or risk management benefit from economies of scale - cost sharing among others diversify more than would be feasible for most individual investors which, theoretically, reduces risk.

In some cases, by aggregating regular investments by many individuals, a retirement plan (such as a 401(k) plan) may qualify to purchase "institutional" shares (and gain the benefit of their typically lower expense ratios) even though no members of the plan would qualify individually.

Join us at our next meet up where we will take a look at many different investment funds; Mutual Funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s), Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT’s), Sovereign Investment Trusts, Hedge Funds, Closed End Funds and Managed Futures.

Expect to learn the role/function of each as well as the pro/cons that accompany them.

Whether you are looking for more information on how to manage your retirement fund or more information on trading ETF’s this meet is for you.

Questions we will look to uncover:

    • What are the costs to invest in these funds?
    • Is a fund’s pricing the same as a stock price?
    • What’s the difference between an open-end and a closed-end fund?
    • Public vs. Private accessibility
    • What are the costs to invest in these funds?

During the second half of the presentation professional trader, Ivan Brown, will break down specific trading strategies while looking at various market charts. Everyone is welcome to attend; novice investors and seasoned vets will both have a great time.
