I am introducing monthly community events for our group for fun and getting to know each other (and hopefully some meaningful learning too). Right now I'm thinking farm visits, documentary watching, lectures, parties, etc. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
For September there are two fun events going on.
On Sept. 19 Meadow Haven Farm, in Sheffield, IL is having their annual Farm & Field Day. There will be lunch, tours and hayrides. At Meadow Haven Farm they raise 100% grass-fed cattle and fully-pastured poultry. The owners, Jeanne and Allen Sexton are Weston A. Price Foundation Members and are two truly wonderful people. They are also very knowledgeable and eloquent, great to talk to about food quality and the importance of good nutrition.

On Sept 26th Earth First Farm, in Berrien Springs, MI will be having their annual Harvest Party. Earth First is a certified organic apple farm that welcomes guests for apple picking every weekend. At their Harvest Party there will "music, grillin, and apple picking.
Here is a link to RSVP to them: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=145507031080&ref=mf
Visiting a farm is a very enjoyable way of connecting with the food and the people that create our nourishment.
