CCNA Study Session - Logan Square, July 11th

  • Jul 11, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

I'd like to host a study session this coming Thursday night from 6pm to 10pm. I've blocked off time on Rack 1 from ccie4u.com. I don't really have a structured agenda to follow, but this week I want to look specifically at the intricacies of VTP and other switching-related topics.

Since this is my private residence, I'll be keeping the exact address secret for now. If you'd like to RSVP, please click the button here to let others know you're coming, but also send me an email at [masked]. I'll send out the exact address on Wednesday once I have a better idea how many people are coming. There's plenty of free parking in this area, and the 49 and 76 buses are very close.

Looking forward to meeting many of you on Thursday!

Joe: Thanks for coming which is a big plus :). and the summary post which is exactly what I want to ask. Yes, I would like to keep you longer as much I can...LOL, especially thanks for subletting and vslm. Can you email me the material you mentioned? Maybe can use dropbox to send big file. https://www.dropbox.com/

Yesterday's meeting was very productive. Thanks for BJ hosting too.

    Discussions:
    Configuring Trunk Ports:
    - Determining port configurations via command..
    [show int fa0/x switchport]
    - Dynamic Desirable vs. Manually configured Ports "Non-DTP"
    VTP:
Server vs. Client vs. Transparent modes
Revision numbers and how they affect our VTP worlds
    STP:
STP Redundancy - Tie-breaker when multiple connections between two switches, which port(s) will be but in blocking-mode. I still think I'm right in that the lowest port would be blocked instead of the highest. see the link below on STP and redundant connections.

Determine your root bridge, blocked ports, root ports etc.
Configuring your Root Bridge, via Root primary, hard setting vlan priority etc.

Subnetting Questions: "a lot" Just Kidding
    - Class A - subnetting, determine valid host addresses
    - Class B - subnetting, determine valid host addresses
    - VLSM A's & B's - given a diagram using an already partially completed subnetting scheme provide the remaining valid subnets needed.

BJ, thanks for hosting this study group and allowing use to stay a little later than normal, 'thanks "Cathy"...LOL. just kidding.
We appreciate your hospitality and also grabbing some Rack time so that others could join in configuring the devices. I'll post a recap of all the topics and links to documentation in another post as we are severely limited on characters in the Meetup post's...

Thanks for putting this together. I am currently out of town but would otherwise have attended. Keep these going and I will attend when I am in town for future meetings.

I have some hand on lab study questions for CCNA. May I bring to ask someone who knows?

    July 8, 2013

    • BJ

Absolutely - we most likely won't get to all of them in one session, but lab study questions are the best.
