Our "Wittgenstein Workshops" constitute by far the longest-running thematic series in the Chicago Philosophy Meetup. The staying power of this format owes much to Wittgenstein's ability to "start over" - and to force his readers to start over - again and again attending to the same simple but fascinatingly elusive issues. Seldom does a philosopher so thoroughly combine intensity with accessibility.
The Workshop format features a balance of close live reading and extended discussion. Tonight we'll start with remark 487 in the Philosophical Investigations, and wander forward at no particular rate. No background or preparation is expected.
