This meetup is a frank discussion, intended to be open and personal, about what we make of the fact that each of us is going to die. What fears and hopes does this thought light in us? How does and should it affect our lives?
References to some philosophical treatments of death are likely to come up, such as Plato's Phaedo, parts of Aristotle's De Anima, parts of Nietzsche's The Gay Science, and parts of Heidegger's Being and Time. But we'll discuss these only insofar as they relate to our own direct thinking about death. Though philosophical, the discussion will not be primarily academic or interpretive.
