Q: Love, Expression, or Knowledge?

Q: If you had to name your greatest motivation in life thus far, what would it be?
A. Love
B. Expression
C. Knowledge

A simple question. So simple, you may think you already know the answer. Little did you know you've just stepped into the greatest game of philosophical rock-papper-scissors of all time.

Which is why the format for this meetup will be: Neo-Symposium. To start, declare your position and state your case (it needn't be a speech). We will hear everyone's reasons, talk it out, and let's see where we each stand by the end. The expectation is we'll find endless overlap among the 3 ideas.

This meetup promises to be revealing, not only in terms of our unique understanding of these 3 words, but also in revealing what truly we find most compelling in our ongoing acquaintance with the great philosophers.

It might have been revealing to hear more about each other's favorite philosophers/personal idols, and how that relates to their answer. Maybe another meetup?

Not to mention that I learned something about myself from this exercise.

Yeah I think "pulling up a chair to the table" has us take ourselves seriously enough to take interest in others

It was very nice to see a slice of everyone's personality in this discussion, even the ones who suggested our topic is misguided or felt a little forced to take on a position. I think it speaks to the character of the group that so much talk about empathy and conscientiousness toward others came out in a discussion of personal motivations. For my part I'll certainly try to avoid biting on our apparent wedge issues at other meets--but still very edifying to hear from all of you.

I *love* this idea, but I am actually giving a lecture that evening.
