Conditions by Alain Badiou

"Beginning with a sustained critique of the so-called ‘end of philosophy', Badiou goes on to propose a new definition of philosophy, one that is tested with respect to both its origin, in Plato, and its contemporary state. The essays that follow are ordered according to what Badiou sees as the four great conditions of philosophy: philosophy and poetry, philosophy and mathematics, philosophy and politics, and philosophy and love."

I've just arrived early to the bourgeois pig and it's packed. We'll need to reschedule or try to relocate, which seems impossible.

It is a real option. Book clubs meet there often and they usually have rooms available if you ask. Call and they will respond well to you.

BTW, a possibly helpful hint to readers. As somebody whose philosophical background is in American pragmatism, and liberal political theory, I found Wahl's preface impenetrable bafflegab, which I abandoned after a few pages. Badiou's own writing, however, is far more tractable.

Ha, i didn't bother with the preface. I'm only interested in Badiou.

I'd suggest that we read the first 3 chapters, which is Part 1 "Philosophy Itself."

I'm interested in this. Do you think we should all read the book before the meeting? It seems the book is long enough to try to break up into some parts, so maybe multiple meetings?
