A group for those interested in leading a healthy and enjoyable life! Real food is delicious and good for you, and it should be fun to prepare and eat with friends and family. Learn about what "real food" is and why it is so important for our health.
It just so happens that healthy food is also the most delicious. It satisfies your palette and your nutrition needs. Forget about chewing on dry low-fat cereals and boring boneless chicken breasts, we are talking high-quality food cooked with tasty ingredients. Think a vegetable omelet with whole-milk yogurt for breakfast, Chevre (a French-style goat cheese) with grilled eggplant and fresh tomatoes for lunch, and steak with a mushroom-sherry sauce and a salad for dinner.
We are focused on helping people eat fresh whole foods on a local and sustainable scale as much as possible. We will help you to avoid foods that are not good for you such as highly-processed foods, sugary foods, refined carbohydrates, and bad oils, among others.
This is a journey for all of us so whatever the goals are all are welcome. So whether you are looking to lose weight in a healthy, sustainable and enjoyable way or trying to feed your children a more nutrient-dense diet or even just trying to eat less fast food, this group is for you.
Our goal is health in a realistic and holistic sense. We are always trying to find ways to make eating real food more economical, more convenient and more fun. We welcome those faced with time and financial constraints and those who have come up with creative solutions for eliminating barriers to eating a healthy diet.
We do not encourage a vegan or vegetarian diet but we do welcome those who eat that way if they want to learn about properly preparing grains or eating dairy products in a humane and healthy way. We also encourage a varied diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits in season. And our focus is on assisting people in eating local, seasonal foods as much as possible.
We hold regular informational meetings and hands-on food preparation workshops. Also, we sometimes hold film-screenings or have guest speakers on the topics of real foods, sustainable agriculture, seasonal and local eating, food politics, and nutrition. Potlucks and community volunteer projects are also on the calendar.
Our goal is to create a dynamic community of lovers of food, health and life who are willing to grow and learn and share with others looking for happiness and holistic health in our homes and in the greater community.
Join us for an exciting night at Uncommon Ground for a delicious dinner, good conversation and a great movie! All for a good cause! We will donate 5$ from every ticket to purchase fresh produce from the organic Wisconsin farm, Harvest Moon Organics, to donate to our local food pantry, Care For Real.
This night is co-hosted by the Chicago Chapter of the Weston A. Read more
