Have you ever been to a bilingual (Japanese and English) church service?
イースター (Easter) is one of the biggest holidays in Canada. If you are Japanese and never attended a church service in Toronto before, why not try it this Easter?
For everyone who is interested in Japanese culture, I think it’s absolutely fascinating to sing some Japanese worship songs, meet more Japanese friends, and experience something you have never done before!
トロント日系福音教会 (Japanese Gospel Church of Toronto) is one of the largest Japanese churches in Toronto. Every Sunday, it has two separate services (one in Japanese and the other one in English. This Easter Sunday will be a special service - bilingual.
Everyone, regardless of your beliefs, is welcome ! People at this church range from native Japanese to 2nd, 3rd generation Japanese, and there are also many non-Japanese who attend. They are very welcoming, and you won’t feel forced to do anything!
On this special Easter, my friend Amy is getting baptized. So if you have never seen a baptism (洗礼式）this will be something very unique and memorable!
The service usually goes from 11a.m. to 12:30p.m.~ 1p.m. Followed by the service will be a pot-luck luncheon where you will meet more friends. If you would like to join for lunch, please bring a dish (free of nuts).
Last time when I had the potluck, there were many homemade and authentic Japanese food. おいしかった! ^__^
By around 2p.m., we should be done. For those also attending the ALL YOU CAN EAT DIM SUM event afterwards, we can find something to do meanwhile and go together :D
How does it sound? I know 11a.m. maybe too early for a lot of you, but it won't hurt to try something new once in a while :p
Hope to see you!
