Re: [The-Classics-Book-Club-of-the-North-Metro] meet time and book selection Hi, Pat -

Looks to me like the “Readers List” has a lot of science fiction in it, which is a genre that is more or less absent from the Board’s picks.  There are certainly “classics” among science fiction, as well as regular literature.  The trouble with a “Board” picking a list of books is not really knowing their criteria for inclusion in the list.   - Linda (mettahu)

Hi, Pamela:
Good hearing from this exciting new group. The last Tues of the month, 6:30-800, works for me.
I have never read D.H. Lawrence's "Sons and Lovers," so I pick that one. I've just read his "Lady Chatterly's Lover."
The Board list makes good sense to me. I don't understand the Reader's list at all. When I was in my 20's, I read -- because it seemed the thing to do -- both "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead" (No. 1 & 2). I remember grumbling, but I got through them. Now I think, as literature, they are little more than caricatures. A couple strange omissions from the group are Faulkner's "The Hamlet," which I think is his best novel, and Steinbeck's "The Winter of Our Discontent," which may be his best.
See you at the meeting,
Pat O'Regan
