  •  Hi Folks,

It's been another great year for learning and teaching outdoors skills.  Now it's time for our annual trek to Mattamuskeet.  If you are not familiar with Mattamuskeet, it is the largest non man-made lake in NC.  The NC Fish and Wildlife Service manages this lake to help migrating birds make their yearly migrations to the south.  Some stay for the winter.  Tundra Swans and Snow Geese can be seen by the thousands as well as an unlimited number of waterfowl and shorebirds.  We have seen bald eagle, otter, nutria, deer, ducks of all kinds and many others.  And as always, we will pick up a bag of oysters near the entrance of the refuge and open them up with those who choose to stay and share the fire when we return home.  The trip is a little over 2 hrs and we can carpool from here.  We will eat lunch there, so pack accordingly and also consider the weather for clothing, and please try to be on time to help expedite our leaving.  I am looking forward to this journey once again, it is always an epic trip, and I hope you will join us.     Kurt

Can someone tell me what time frame we are looking at? Is it all day or a few hours? Or perhaps i can leave early without a guide? Thanks!

Hi Trish, thanks for your interest in this outing. Due to the forecasted weather conditions, I feel it is best to pospone this to a later date. Although this type of weather brings in many more birds, it might be tough to get a good look at them. Hope to see you next time. Kurt

I'm not going to be able to go, but sounds like a great trip.
