I like the idea of being able to bring my imagination to life, and allowing others to be entertained by it. I like the thought of making others happy by doing what makes me happy. And I like the wide, but somehow still personal, reach that video games have. Millions of people can play one game, and yet each of them have their own experiences; their own stories. I love the flexibility this medium of entertainment offers, and it is always so exciting to hear about new developments in the technology that it uses. Video games can be casual enough that people can simply play a little in their free time, or they can be immersive enough to capture players for hours and hours on end. I not only want to be a part of the community that makes this possible, but I want to have a lasting impact on it as well.
I have done a small bit of programming, most of it for classes, and I have also tried my hand at 3D modeling and level design. I've written stories and came up with ideas and thought about what game play styles would best suit those ideas. Though, if I honestly had to describe my own level of experience, I would have to say: novice.
Video games have not only been a hobby for me, but also a great passion. I have been playing games ever since I could hold a controller, and it was sometime during Junior-High that I realized that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I'm a strong believer in finding what makes you happy, and turning that into your profession. If you have no passion for whatever it is you are doing, then you won't truly reach your full potential.
Although I know that this is the industry I want to be in, I'm still not actually sure which area I would like to focus on. I am hoping that by meeting actual working teams and seeing every aspect in person, I can gain a better understanding of each one, and finally decide for myself.
My name is Zack Howard, I am 21 years old and have lived in Ohio for most of my life. I am a junior at Ohio University. I've obtained an associates degree in Electronic Media, and am currently working on a bachelors in Digital Game Design.
